Master Thesis

In the end of 2009, I integrated the team responsible for one of the two autonomous driving robots of the Mechanical Engineer Department of Aveiro University.

This robot, besides the automatic control, allowed to be controlled manually with an external wireless remote, used often in demonstrations. This mode could be dangerous because the robot could be crashed into anything without any hesitation. My Master’s Thesis objective was to develop a safety feature based on ultrasonic sensors to stop the robot from hurting anyone or damaging itself.

Main tasks:

  • Design and machining of the components for the mounting system

  • Prototyping and develop a PCB board using EAGLE software

  • Programing of a microchip microcontroller in C language for the low level control

  • Programing a software module in C language for the high level control (in Linux)
